The intestinal microbiome
We have been focusing on:
- Characterizing the intestinal microbiome in patients with diarrheal disease and their healthy family members. (See: Singh et. al., Microbiome 2015; Singh and Manning, Annals of Epidemiol 2016)
- Characterizing the intestinal microbiome in ruminants (deer and cattle) with and without Shiga toxin-producing E. coli. (See: Delgado et al. 2017)
We have also begun to examine intestinal phage and viral communities and have identified protective phage populations that are capable of killing enteric pathogens.
